This battle is significant for a number of reasons -- for hundreds of years the land on which it was fought was a significant meeting point for annual business and political proceedings of the Native Americans. For the newly formed nation it would be a test of the young government’s ability to martial the military to protect the country. For the area, it would become instrumental in the formation of the fort which would lead to the creation of the city of Fort Wayne.
