Becoming the poet you've always wanted to be with George Kalamaras. Discover the art of poetry, from crafting your first Haiku to participating in poetry slams and more.
Celebrate National Poetry Month with ACPL in this virtual workshop. Former Indiana Poet Laureate (2014-2016) George Kalamaras will instruct you on how to find, develop, and share your poetic voice.
George Kalamaras, former Poet Laureate of Indiana (2014–2016), is Professor Emeritus of English at Purdue University Fort Wayne, where he taught for thirty-two years. He is the author of twenty-three collections of poetry—fourteen full-length books and nine chapbooks, and he has published more than 1,300 poems in magazines and anthologies. In addition to his publications in the United States, his poems have appeared in print journals in Africa, Asia, Europe, and Latin America and have been translated into Bengali and Spanish.
One of George’s greatest loves is hound dogs! In fact, his next book of poems, which will appear later this spring, focuses entirely on hound dogs. George and his wife, Mary Ann Cain (also a fellow writer and Professor Emeritus at PFW), have nurtured beagles in their home for nearly thirty years, first Barney, then Bootsie, and now Blaisie.
