Emotion Explorers

Join us as we use art to learn about our emotions, practice resilience, and learn coping skills.

Intended for pre-school-aged children and their grown-up, this program will include a read-aloud and an art activity designed to teach children about a variety of mental health topics, including emotion identification and processing, friendship, separation, self-esteem, resilience, and coping skills development. Activities listed are subject to change.

September- Affirmation Mirrors: We will read the book It’s OK: Being Kind to Yourself When Things Feel Hard by Wendy O’Leary, discuss the importance of self-compassion when we make a mistake, and make a hand-held, kid-friendly affirmation mirror to take home.

October- Flexible Thinking:  We will read the book That’s Not How You Do it by Ariane Hofmann-Maniyar, engage in a flexible vs. rigid thinking activity, and complete a creative drawing challenge.

November- Peaceful Places: We will read the book Peaceful Me by Sandra V. Feder and create faux-watercolor art of our favorite peaceful places.

This program is being led by a Licensed Mental Health Counselor Associate from Mental Health America of Northeast Indiana. Mental Health America of Northeast Indiana (MHANI) is an advocacy and education non-profit organization founded in 1954 whose mission it is to promote the mental and emotional health of the community by offering advocacy, education, support services, and hope.
