Cooking and culture will combine as we make our own anko filled manju cakes and learn about the Japanese tale Manju Kowai.
Join us for an engaging afternoon where tweens and teens in 4th-6th grade dive into the world of Japanese storytelling and culinary arts! After an introduction to the traditional art of Rakugo, a form of comedic storytelling that combines humor, drama, and skillful character voices; attendees will roll up their sleeves for a hands-on cooking session. We will focus on basic cooking skills and terminology while making Manju cakes, a traditional Japanese sweet, filled with delicious anko (sweet red bean paste).
Attendees will taste test their creations while watching a recorded English Rakugo performance of the trickster tale Manju Kowai directed by Yasu Ishida.
Space is limited; register in advance to reserve your spot and receive reminders. Registration will guarantee your seat until the event begins. Accessibility needs? Please contact ask@acpl.info as soon as possible - we’d love to help.
