After inheriting thousands of photos, with a vast number of them unidentified, Tina LaFreniere was determined to discover the identity of the people in her photos. She was convinced modern technology could be harnessed “for good” to accomplish the task. Finding no viable solution she and her family created a brand new genealogy tool out of necessity and sheer determination. It is called Related Faces. Tonight, Tina will describe how to safely digitize your old photos with your cell phone, utilize the Related Faces platform to narrow down or even pinpoint potential matching people and she will describe methods for discovering and confirming people’s identities. Presented by: Tina LaFreniere
Tina LaFreniere is a Naples resident and a member of Genealogical Society of Collier County and National Genealogical Society. She has been working on her own genealogical search for over 15 years. Tina’s family has come to rely on her to keep most of the family records and as people in her family passed, she has been the inheritor of thousands of family photos. Most are from the 1940’s through 1990’s, but some date back to the late 1800’s, and of course most were not labeled with names. As the wife of a technology executive and mother to children in technology, she thought there had to be a way to utilize technology to help identify the people in her photos. When she couldn’t find a website suited to this purpose, she used her business background and knowledge of genealogy to build Related Faces which uses state-of-the-art technology to help genealogist figure out who are the faces in their photos.
