Evaluating Published Family Histories? There are three types of sources that every genealogist will encounter: original sources; derivative sources; and "authored works." An authored genealogy may indeed be derivative, but if it is well sourced with evidence from direct sources and record analysis, it can be considered something more important than merely derivative. With this in mind, this talk examines some of the features to look for when analyzing a published family history.
