Navigating the world of DNA testing for personal projects can be perplexing, and Julie Tonseth is here to shed light on its practical applications. She will be sharing valuable insights into identifying mystery ancestors through DNA, showcasing the fascinating intersection of genetics and genealogy.

Presenting a captivating use case—a common scenario that highlights the effectiveness of DNA tools in solving real-life mysteries—Julie will explore the case of "What Happened to Great-Grandpa Palmer?"

Two first cousins sought Julie's assistance in resolving the disappearance of their great-grandfather, William "Palmer" Gore, who vanished in 1908 from a small Texas town. Did he succumb to the yellow fever outbreak, face imprisonment, or simply vanish without a trace? Despite a decade of efforts using traditional methods and DNA testing, they found themselves at a crossroads.

During this session, Julie will walk us through the steps and tools employed to solve the case, showcasing how DNA testing can be a transformative tool in breaking through years of theories and dead ends.
