Have you ever wondered what the various symbols on a gravestone may mean? Could they be telling you about that person? It's quite possible!  Cemeteries can provide a wealth of information, if you know what to look for. Learn about the symbolism behind many gravestone carvings and how to properly conduct research in cemeteries.

Lillian Wingate is genealogist and historian that specializes in South Georgia Research. She has been going to cemeteries since she was a small child and loves to share her findings and teach others the importance of cemeteries in genealogical research. Lillian has worked as the Regional Genealogist and Local Historian at the Statesboro Regional Library for over 8 years, where she teaches classes monthly and assists patrons from across the country with research.
