"Internal Migration within the United States"

The Allen County Public Library Genealogy Center and the Northeast Indiana Jewish Genealogy Society are excited to welcome Dr. Nicholas J. Evans, a Senior Lecturer in diaspora history at the University of Hull, for a series of free virtual programs on the first three Tuesdays in February, beginning at 2:30 p.m. “The Making of a Mosaic: European Migrant Journeys During the Age of Steam” will be presented in three parts. These lectures are in conjunction with the Genealogy Center’s Tuesday afternoon virtual programs.

This third session of Making of a Mosaic, "Internal Migration within the United States" will explore how migrant records enable one to piece together the numerous journeys that complete the migrant’s settlement in their new homes.

Additional information on Dr. Nicholas Evans:
Besides teaching both undergraduate and postgraduate students in the School of Humanities at the University of Hull, Dr. Nicholas Evans uses his research on voluntary and coerced migration around the Atlantic to empower religious and ethnic minority communities. He “relishes” in helping people unearth the personal stories of their migrant ancestors. Dr. Evans has spent the last 17 years as an academic researcher in the prize-winning Wilberforce Institute for the study of Slavery and Emancipation in his home city of Hull, England.
