Black History Month

Celebrate African American literature by reading a selection by your favorite African American author.

Participants can read from a wide variety of African American books provided by the library, bring their own selection, or choose to read something they have written themselves. The African American Read-In, a program developed by the Black Caucus of the National Council of Teachers of English (NCTE) and sponsored by the NCTE since 1990. Established as a way to make literacy a significant part of Black History Month, it is the nation's first and oldest event dedicated to diversity in literature and has reached more than 5.5 million participants around the world.

This program is intended for all ages. Register for all programs on our Events page, on the ACPL mobile app, or by calling the branch. In an effort to be courteous to our presenters, audience members, and waitlisted registrants:

• Register all attendees: children, adults, teens and caregivers
• Please arrive prior to the program’s start time.  Registering for a program will not hold your seat after the program’s designated start time
• If you are unable to attend, please cancel your registration online or by calling the branch
