Every May, Fort Wayne is alive with Japanese arts, crafts and culture. This year, enjoy some of the festival at your own home with these crafts that celebrate Japan. This kit can to go home with you.

By registering for this take-home program, you are reserving one or more kits for pick up at the Tecumseh Branch. Programs will be available beginning on the day listed and held for the week for pick up during regular hours. If you are unable to pick up your kits by the end of the week, please cancel your registration online or by calling an ACPL location.

Request multiple kits by using the "Add More People" option during registration. You will receive one kit for each person registered.

Kit Includes Supplies for Three Projects:

  • Koinobori Kite
    • Koinobori are traditional carp-shaped windsocks used to celebrate Children’s Day in Japan. You can make a simple fish wind sock out of construction paper and streamers.
  • Sakura Suncatcher
    • Sakura is the Japanese word for cherry blossom. These delicate flowers are celebrated in Japanese culture as a symbol of spring and new beginnings. While real cherry blossoms only last a week or two, you can make a cherry blossom to hang in your window all year.
  • Kokeshi Doll Bookmark
    • Kokeshi Dolls are traditional wooden dolls that have been made as toys for children for over 150 years. Kokeshi dolls are simple in their design, consisting of a pillar body and head. You can make a bookmark that mimics the design of a traditional Kokeshi Doll.
