Harry Smiley was known by several names and declared conflicting details about his life. Sibling research confirmed his mother but revealed three same-named men as possible fathers: two with parallel lives and one without any known documentation. Understanding local laws and cultural customs, researching familial associations, and integrating genetic evidence helped this new-ish to Jewish researcher successfully identify Harry’s father. While this case study focuses on a Jewish family, the methodology is universally applicable, equipping attendees with practical techniques to resolve their own complex research challenges.

Linda McCracken is the owner of KinXions Genetic Genealogy and specializes in complex cases using documentary and genetic evidence. She holds a bachelor's degree in Family History and is working toward her Certified Genealogist credential. Linda's expertise is rooted in personal experience—she identified and corrected misattributed parentage for five of her eight great-grandparents by blending documentary and genetic evidence with rigorous methodology. She now empowers others with the tools and strategies needed to overcome their most challenging genealogical problems and discover their true family connections.
