Intended for upper elementary children, this program will include a read-aloud and an art activity designed to teach children about a variety of mental health topics, including resilience, coping skills, and emotion identification and processing. Activities listed are subject to change.
September- My Feelings Sand Art: We will read the book What Feelings Do When No One’s Looking by Tina Oziewicz. Participants will get the opportunity to discuss all the feelings in their body and create a feelings sand art bottle to take home.
October- Behind the Mask: We will read the book A Bad Case of Stripes by David Shannon and learn about the importance of being ourselves and resisting peer pressure. Participants will decorate a mask to celebrate their most authentic selves!
November- Friendship Pie: We will read the book Enemy Pie by Derek Munson and create our own friendship pie, weaving together the characteristics of a good friend, no food involved.
This program is being led by a Licensed Mental Health Counselor Associate from Mental Health America of Northeast Indiana. Mental Health America of Northeast Indiana (MHANI) is an advocacy and education non-profit organization founded in 1954 whose mission it is to promote the mental and emotional health of the community by offering advocacy, education, support services, and hope.
