Tax records can add depth and context to family history by uncovering ancestors' financial status, property ownership, and place of residence. They can help track migration, identify neighbors, and show economic changes over time. These records may uncover unknown relatives, occupations, or hardships like tax disputes. Tax payments may provide insight into social standing and wealth, or lack of it.. By analyzing tax data, researchers can build a richer, more detailed picture of an ancestor’s life.

Michele Doyle, MSLS,  has more than 30 years of genealogy research experience, and has conducted on-the-ground research in Pennsylvania, Maryland, Ohio, and Ireland as well as North Carolina.  Adding context to family history and stories to family members is a passion and a goal in the research that Michele does.
