Celebrate National Poetry Month with ACPL. Spend an evening writing poetry with the current Indiana Poet Laureate Curtis Crisler at the main location. Come and find your unique, poetic voice!
Crisler's "Your Bring Out..." Workshop is based off Sandra Cisneros's "You Bring Out the Mexican in Me," followed up by Bao Phi's "You Bring Out the Vietnamese in Me," Crisler continues a narrative (story) poem theme, but twists things up by addressing gender. He creates "You bring out the woman in me"—a narrative (story) poem about women who’ve affected his life. The participants will create their own narrative (story) poem about another gender that has affected their lives and will read/discuss what they created if time permits.
Curtis Crisler is an award-winning poet/author who has six poetry books, two YA books, and five poetry chapbooks. He’s been published in a number of magazines, journals, and anthologies and is an editor and contributing poetry editor. He created the Indiana Chitlin Circuit, the poetry form called the sonastic, and is Professor of English at Purdue University Fort Wayne.
