Learn how to self-edit your story by studying three essential elements of storytelling: character, plot, and scene.

Have you finished a story, but don’t know where to go from there? Or do you know your story needs editing, but don’t know where or how to start? This is the program for you!

In this program, you’ll learn a few beginner-friendly ways to begin examining, refining, and deepening your story or work-in-progress.

This presentation will explore three critical elements of storytelling: character, plot, and scene. We’ll examine what they are, what it takes to make them work, common problems for each element and some solutions, and more.

This program is for any adult who writes or wants to write, at any stage of the creative process. Whether you’ve got a finished novel or an idea you just want to explore, this program will give you some tools to help you along on your writing journey.

NOTE: This program is geared towards fiction writers. While writers of creative nonfiction and other genres of nonfiction may still find these concepts useful, they may need to tweak or tailor the information to suit their genre needs.

About the library

The Little Turtle branch was named after Miami chief Little Turtle, who was born near Ft. Wayne. The Little Turtle branch is home to unique circulating collections, including puzzles and games, and the ACPL Seed Library.
