Born in 1939 in Wheeling, West Virginia, Ronald L. Darrah has resided in Indiana since 1972. Ron earned his B.S. in Education from Kent State University in 1967, followed by graduate studies there in 1969-70. He also pursued undergraduate history courses at IUPUI from 1996-2000.
Ron’s career includes teaching sixth grade in Parma, Ohio, and serving as Supervisor of Warehousing for Indianapolis Public Schools before retirement. He also retired as a Technical Sergeant from the Indiana Air National Guard. With over 40 years of genealogical research experience, Ron is Vice-President and Librarian of the Genealogical Society of Marion County and serves as Chair of the Indiana Genealogical Society affiliates, the Society of Civil War Families of Indiana, and the Territorial Guard Society of Indiana. He has been recognized as a Fellow of the Indiana Genealogical Society.
Ron is also a former Registrar for the Clarence Cook Chapter of the Indiana Society, Sons of the American Revolution, and holds memberships in First Families of Ohio, Civil War Families of Ohio, the General Society of the War of 1812, and the Society of the Descendants of Ireland.
As a genealogy lecturer since 1996, Ron continues to share his expertise. His research focuses on family names including Darrah, O’Neill, Blanchard, Bowen, Wilson, Minor, and Allen.
